Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter - 14th September 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a really successful first full week and we are continuing to be impressed by the children’s attitude to school and how quickly and calmly they have settled in. We will even be starting to go to our whole school assemblies next week because of their excellent behaviour and listening skills.

Your children are now selecting their own activities using the choosing board independently and using their name cards. In maths, we have been learning all about the number 5 through counting and partitioning so that we really understand the value and what it represents.

Next week we will focus on friendships, thinking about why they are important and how we can be a lovely friend. Hopefully making new ones along the way!

We will be writing our names every morning as our morning job so any extra practise at home would be brilliant.

Read, Write, Inc will continue to take place every morning. We will be learning the sounds i, n, p, g and o. We will continue to learn how to say the sounds in a word and then blend sounds together. For example, “m-a-t…mat, s-a-d…sad”

Next week we will be introducing the Brush Bus. All children in Foundation Stage will be brushing their teeth after lunch each day. This will be overseen by the Community Dental Service. No equipment will need to be provided by parents. If you do not wish your child to take part, please let us know.

Your child will bring home a Read, Write, Inc. homework pack today. Please use this to practice the sounds we have been learning this week in class. They are m, a, s, d and t.

Ideas for supporting your child’s learning at home:

  • Sharing books together with family – use the reading activity ideas in the red book.
  • Dressing and undressing independently
  • Writing our names using correct letter formation
  • Draw 5 objects, count 5 objects, partition them in different ways (4+1, 3+2, 5+0)

Practise writing the letters m  s  a  d  t – think of words that start with these sounds.

Many thanks, Mrs Yeo, Mrs Bastin and Mrs Clague.
