Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter 9th November 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would firstly like to thank everyone who came to our bonfire assembly, the children really appreciated the support. It was wonderful to see their smiling faces and the confidence they have after only eight weeks of being in school! To follow on from the learning, we had our own bonfire in the woodland area, it was very exciting.

This week we have been learning about Diwali. The children have enjoyed watching video clips, hearing the story of Rama and Sita, making rangoli patterns and creating their own diva pots.

The new sounds for this week are: ch, qu, x, ng and nk. We have now completed all the set one sounds, the children have been working very hard. Please continue to use the work book to practice letter formation, if you require another booklet please let us know.

In maths we have been partitioning the number 7. The children have been using counters and other objects to explore how we can make 7 (i.e. 5 and 2 then 4 and 3). Please continue to help your child count reliably from 0-20 and backwards. Also talk about numbers in the environment, this will help with their recognition.

Well done to the children for how they reacted to our first fire drill. They were very sensible and we had a wonderful discussion about keeping ourselves safe.

We have dinosaurs linked to all our school values. This half term the children will be introduced to our new dinosaur ‘Responsibility Rex’. He will help us to instil in the children these important qualities for learning and citizenship.

‘I am Responsibility Rex. I am always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing. I am very good at looking after our environment and take care of all the equipment and people in our school. I am responsible for my own learning and enjoy reaching my targets. I like challenges and I am proud about the things I do in order to achieve them.’

Next week our learning experience will be based on the story Whatever Next!

It has been a very busy and enjoyable week, we hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Parental Consent

We would love to share more of our learning experiences by posting photos on the school app and website. However, we are unable to do this at the moment as we do not have permission from all parents. Please could you register, if you have not already done so, and log onto the SIMS Parentlite app to give your consent for us to use your child in photographs. Any queries please contact the School Office.

Many thanks, Mrs Yeo, Mrs Bastin, and Mrs Clague
