Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter

Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter 18th January

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wow it has been a very busy week!

To support our topic ‘People Who Help Us’, we had a visit from Devon and Cornwall Police. They brought along a police van, a car and lots of equipment for the children to try. The children enjoyed asking questions and finding out how police officers keep us safe. Thank you to Mr Hoare and Mr Worth for arranging the visit.

The children put their detective skills to use to solve a mystery. Someone had trapped the dinosaurs in the tray with masking tape! They had to look for clues, interview people and write a report. Even Mr Ord was interviewed! Please ask your child to tell you about the mystery.

In the woods this week we cooked eggy bread! It was so exciting being able to make our own snack in the woods! It was delicious and we are looking forward to our next adventure!

In Maths we are starting to add two numbers with the aim of holding the first number in our head and counting on.

On Tuesday 22nd January at 2.45pm we will be sharing ideas about Read Write Inc. We will talk about how your child is learning to read and how this can be supported at home. We look forward to seeing you. Please come to the hall via the office.

Ideas for home learning

  • Try using different objects around the home and adding them together. E.g If I have 3 bananas and 2 apples how many do I have altogether?
  • Use post it notes to label things around the home, then stick them in your red book to show us

Please can all PE kits be in school for next week. Thank you.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Many thanks, The Foundation Team
