Unit 2 Spring 2 Newsletter
Full Steam Ahead!
Welcome back, we hope you all had a restful half term holiday. Hopefully the weather will continue to improve. We are looking forward to another very exciting and fun filled half term.
Learning Experience – Literacy, History and Design and Technology
Calling all future engineers, inventors, builders, innovators, architects, researchers and historians! Get ready to be immersed in the exciting world of engineering. From the impact of famous historical figures on our local area to discovering and developing our own skills and knowledge for the future. The children will enjoy a design and technology day from a special visitor who teaches engineering through the use of Lego. This will lead us into researching the famous Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel thus enabling the children to have an appreciation of changes within living memory and how this had an impact on our local area. We will take a journey to Broadsands beach to explore Hookhills Viaduct – constructed in 1860 by Brunel. We will then be able to use our writing skills to recount our visit. To end the learning experience the children will be invited to go on a Steam train to experience the railway, first hand.
