Foundation Stage Weekly Newsletter
Puffins and Penguins Weekly Newsletter, 15th November2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week Puffins and Penguins have been exploring ‘Space’, we are very impressed with the children’s creativity. We have read the story ‘Whatever Next’ written by Jill Murphy, and the children have enjoyed re-telling the story. Within the story we have been talking about the words rocket, journey, chimney, picnic and roared. It is important to stop and talk about the meaning of words to help the children gain a deeper understanding and broader vocabulary. We will continue this next week and even hope to make our own jam sandwiches for a picnic. The children have used torches to learn about why we have day and night and have been measuring craters in the sand.
All the children have had the opportunity to meet our new chickens this week. They have been into the enclosure feeding and caring for them. They were very excited to meet the chickens and some were confident enough to hand feed them. The school have been busy thinking of names for the chickens, the theme is female authors. If you are interested in joining the chicken rota to help look after them at the weekends please contact the school office.
All children from foundation up to Year 6 were treated to a live music performance on Wednesday afternoon. We welcomed two gifted musicians into school from Live Music Now, called Ensemble Hesperi. They travelled from London and performed traditional Scottish music using recorders and a harpsichord. The children showed great respect and really enjoyed listening and joining in, making beats and rhythms with their bodies. This was a great opportunity for the children to experience something new and many have told us how much they loved it!
We will be holding a Read Write Inc demonstration on Thursday 21st November at 2.40pm in the hall. This will give you an insight into how we teach phonics and how you can support your child at home. We look forward to seeing you there.
We will soon be talking to the children about our trip to the theatre on Thursday 5th December. Please can we remind you that the deadline for ordering a packed lunch from the kitchen is Friday 22nd November. Please order from the school office.
Have a wonderful weekend.
