BBC 500 Words Competition

As a school, we have worked hard to shape our writing curriculum. Our next step is to focus on fostering a love for writing, linking to our school aim of ‘Love to Learn’. As a result,  we are excited to share that the BBC 500 Words Writing Competition is back, offering a fantastic chance for children to showcase their creativity!

The competition is open to children aged 5-11, with two age categories: 5-7 year-olds and 8-11 year-olds. All they need to do is write a story they would love to read, in 500 words or less. It’s all about imagination; spelling, punctuation, and grammar will not be marked – we want to encourage children of all abilities to take part.

Some key details:

  • Deadline for submissions: November 8th.
  • Stories must be original and typed.
  • Each child can submit only one story, and it must be written individually.

Exciting Prizes:

  • 50 finalists will be invited to a grand final at Buckingham Palace in February, where their stories will be read by celebrities.
  • Winners will receive book bundles, with 500 books awarded to the school of the gold winners, and their stories will be illustrated by top artists!

For more information and to submit your child’s story, please visit the official competition website: BBC 500 Words Competition, where you will need to register for free before submitting your child’s story.

We would love to see as many of our pupils as possible take part, so please encourage your child to get creative and share their wonderful ideas!
