Our Woodland Camp day is Monday. We want to try and use the Woodland Camp most Mondays-please remember wellies.
Home Learning and Supporting the Curriculum at home
We have attached a selection of Knowledge Organisers, for you to use to support your child’s learning at home. These set out clearly what we expect children to learn and remember in that subject. Please use these at home to reinforce and help embed your child’s learning.
Our home learning project will be set on Teams, please see your child’s home-school link books for the logins. They also have access to lots of apps to help their learning at home. These are also on their password sheet.
Please support your child’s learning by reading with them daily. They will bring home a RWI book or a ZPD book, and a library book to share. We have also set a reading project on MyOn, with lots of books that will support your child’s learning over this half term.
Additional apps to support learning
Children have access to many apps, including TT Rockstars, Sumdog, Spelling shed, Math shed, MyOn, Letterjoin, Oxford Owls. Please let your children practice on these apps during the week, as part of their home learning, as it can really benefit their learning to have this re-enforced at home.
Maths
In Year 1 we will be using what we have learnt about place value and addition and subtraction of numbers up to 10 to help us move on to place value and addition and subtraction of numbers up to 20. We will also be learning about position and direction within geometry.
In Year 2 we will be learning to add and subtract 2-digit numbers to and from 2-digit numbers. Please support your child by practicing instantly knowing number bonds to 10 (eg, 7 and 3 make 10), as well as practicing counting forward and backwards to and from 100.
School Value
This half term, we are learning about Responsibility. We all need to be responsible so that our friends know they can rely on us. This helps us to be Good Citizens.
British Value
This half term, in our Class Assemblies and PSHE lessons, we are learning about the British Value of Tolerance, by understanding about different cultures and accepting others opinions.
Our Curriculum
Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 will enjoy a long and short enquiry each half term.
Long Enquiries
A long enquiry typically lasts five weeks and allows us to teach a subject, such as history, in depth. Clear expectations of what will be learned, is shared with parents and pupils through a Knowledge Organiser. At the end of the work, we plan to use Enquiry Quizzes on our iPads to see how much each child has remembered.
Our first Learning Enquiry this term is Design Technology—Cooking and Nutrition. We will be creating our own healthy pizzas. The Knowledge Organiser is attached. Please use it to reinforce and repeat the learning at home.
Short Enquiries
A short enquiry can last anything from 1 – 3 days and adds breadth to our curriculum.
Our short enquiry will have an Art focus. We will learn about Wassily Kandinsky and how he portrayed emotion in his art.
Literacy
Our literacy is linked to a text, Daisy Doodles. The children will write a similar story about a real and imaginary world.
Later in the half term we will be exploring a non fiction text, Hot and Cold. The children will be using the layout of the book to produce a page about a science topic we have studied.
As a school we are particularly focusing on improving the children’s handwriting and spelling, our literacy lessons will be reflecting this.
