Home Learning and Supporting the Curriculum at home
We have attached a selection of Knowledge Organisers, for you to use to support your child’s learning at home. These set out clearly what we expect children to learn and remember in that subject. Please use these at home to reinforce and help embed your child’s learning.
Home learning:
Make a piece of impermanent temporary art in your garden or at the beach, take photos of it over time to record how it changes.
Make a collage using natural materials.
Write a fact file about Andy Goldsworthy. Or research some more of Andy Goldsworthy’s pieces, pick your favourite and write about what you like about it.
Our home learning projects will also be available on Teams, please see your child’s home-school link book for the logins. Please support your child’s learning by reading with them at least three times a week, they will bring home a RWI book or a ZPD book, and a library book to share.
Maths
In Year 1 we are learning about 2D shapes, particularly focusing on the properties of 2D shapes and being able to reason about shapes and non shapes. We will then learn about money using coins and notes.
Year 2s will be continuing to learn all about measure, before consolidating the topics covered this year. This will make sure that they are really confident in the year 2 curriculum before they move up to year 3.

School Value
Determination: We would love to see examples of determination from home! Please share photos on Teams of the things your children achieve outside of school needing a brilliant sense of determination.
British Value— Respect
This half term within our curriculum, we are learning about the British Value of Respect. This is also one of our School Values. We will be looking at respect for nature and how a respect for nature will teach children to be respectful of differences around them in the wider world.
Our Curriculum
Children in Key Stage 1 and 2 will enjoy a long and short enquiry each half term.
Our first Learning Enquiry this term is Art —The children will delve into the exciting world of art and nature in the outdoors through the remarkable artist Andy Goldsworthy. The Knowledge Organiser is attached. Please use it to reinforce and repeat the learning at home.
Our short enquiry is a Geography fieldwork based enquiry. We will be looking at the human and physical features of Preston Beach. This will include a trip to the beach to spot these features. There is no cost to parents for this trip.
Literacy
Our literacy is linked to a book ’You can’t hide a Lion at School’ - the children will be writing their own story about bringing their own toy animal to school.
Later in the half term we will be exploring a beautiful poetry book called ‘Tell me a Dragon’. The children will create and write poetry about their own dragons.
As a school we are particularly focusing on improving the children’s handwriting and spelling, our literacy lessons will be reflecting this.
