Library Visits

EYFS and the Reading Ambassadors Visit the Library

January 29, 2025

Love to Learn

We were delighted to give our Reading Ambassadors the opportunity to share their enthusiasm and love of reading with the children in Foundation. The Reading Ambassadors accompanied small groups of children from Puffins and Penguins to Torquay Library. During these visits, they supported and encouraged the younger children by helping them choose books, reading stories, making recommendations, and fostering a love of reading. This initiative not only builds confidence and literacy skills in younger students but also nurtures leadership and communication skills in our Ambassadors. They were great role models and demonstrated our school aim, ‘Love to Learn'. One of our Ambassadors said they were initially nervous about reading books aloud but then said they really enjoyed the experience and would like to do it more often.

Many Puffins and Penguins had not visited Torquay library before and were very excited by the extensive range of books to choose from. It was wonderful to spend time browsing and talking about books and learning about children’s reading preferences. The staff in the library commented on how well behaved the children were and how lovely it was to see so many children enjoying the facility.  We are proud to see our school and community working together to inspire a lifelong love of books.

We encourage every child to sign up for a free library card. It is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to explore books. Click on the link for more information. https://www.torbaylibraries.org.uk/web/arena/join-thelibrary

We will share more information about the services offered by local libraries in the next edition of our ‘Reading Matters’ newsletter.
