Art
At Preston, we understand and appreciate how teaching art is a powerful tool in providing children with the skills they need to develop as creative and critical problem solvers. Our art curriculum nurtures creativity and inspires a passion for art, equipping pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to experiment and invent.

Our art curriculum engages, inspires, and challenges children to think like artists. We focus on four key areas: drawing, painting, 3D, and the SEMH aspect of art. These areas are revisited and deepened each year, helping children build upon their knowledge of materials, techniques, and artists and make meaningful links to their prior learning.
Throughout our art curriculum, children explore a diverse range of artists, craftspeople, and designers in historical and cultural contexts, discovering how they have influenced the world around us. By learning about various art-related careers, children gain insight into potential career opportunities for their futures, therefore equipping them with our school aim of ‘Ready to Work’.
By celebrating multiple perspectives in art, our curriculum helps children interpret the world and fosters tolerance by examining art's impact on society, politics, emotions, and mental well-being.
