NumBots
At Preston, we want all our pupils to be able to have mathematical fluency with their number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. To support children with developing this skill, we use NumBots from Year 1.

NumBots is an engaging online game that helps children significantly improve their understanding and recall of number bonds, as well as addition and subtraction facts. These are essential building blocks in early maths. At the start of year, your child will receive login details which will allow them to access NumBots. These login details are the same as Times Table Rockstars – a linked online game.
To make the most of NumBots, we recommend short, regular practice sessions. Aim for your child to play for about five minutes, three to four times per week.

Game Modes
On NumBots, there are different game modes. These are different ways to play and develop mathematical fluency.
- Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.
- Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head. Challenge Mode is locked for new users and Challenge 1 is unlocked once players reach level 80 on Story Mode. There are 20 challenges in total. To unlock the next challenge, players must correctly answer 12 questions in a minute.

NumBots App
The NumBots App is available at the Apple Store and on Google Play Store. This allows children to use NumBots on mobile devices and tablets. The app is free to download but your child will need to enter their log in details to play.
