Therapy Dogs Nationwide Visit
Therapy Dogs Nationwide Visit Broadsands House

Yesterday, the children in Broadsands House were thrilled to welcome Martin French and other members of Therapy Dogs Nationwide – as well as five therapy dogs! Martin explained to the children how Therapy Dogs support many people in hospitals, hospices, residential homes, schools, prisons, care centres, and multiple other settings. Martin explained how Therapy Dogs improve wellbeing, increase happiness and confidence levels, and develop communication skills. Martin spoke about how Therapy Dogs Nationwide provides schools with a ‘Paws to Read’ programme, which encourages many children to read aloud even when it is difficult to do so – this is a service our school gratefully receives. A tremendous thank you to Izzy and Dasha, Broadsands House Captains, for e-mailing Therapy Dogs Nationwide to invite the wonderful representatives of Therapy Dogs Nationwide into school, and for suggesting the idea of holding an unwanted gifts and toys sale to raise money for their chosen charity. The House Captains will email parents/carers soon providing further details on their upcoming fundraising event.
This assembly was a great example of how our children were thinking about the school aim of ‘Be Good Citizens,’ by thinking of others and positively contributing to our local community.
