South Devon College Trip
Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking

Last week, 14 of our Year 5 and 6 pupils were given the opportunity to explore cyber security and ethical hacking at South Devon College. The children learnt so much about how individuals and companies protect personal data, and of the kinds of threats to our online security. The children researched black and white hat hackers, and made the important distinction between those who hack for crime, and those who hack to develop firewall systems and keep us safe. The children had a go at solving Enigma Codes and then they used the Scratch program to develop an algorithm to guess a mystery number. Conrad, a lecturer at South Devon College who led the day, commented on the excellent behaviour of our pupils. They really demonstrated they were ‘Ready to Learn’ and thinking about their own futures in the world of work. Well done, and a big thank you to the team at South Devon College for hosting the event.
