South Devon College Trip - Automotives Workshop
Ready for Work

Last Friday, another group of Year 5/6 children visited South Devon College to take part in an automotives workshop. The children had a tour of the automotive centre and learned about the automotive course, such as spray-painting parts of a car. The group then worked as a team to create a car out of a water bottle, elastic bands, and dowelling, and their challenge was to make their car move! The staff were impressed by the children’s innovative ideas on how they could adapt their cars to make them travel the furthest.
During the afternoon, the children carried out a test run of their cars and were able to make adaptions that would make their cars move further. The day ended with a race to see whose car travelled the furthest. The children used their School Values and our School Aim of ‘Ready for Work’ in abundance throughout the day. The children also discussed the different jobs within automotives which they could pursue in the future. The staff at the College commented on the children’s engagement and enthusiasm and how respectful they were to others.
We are privileged to have this ongoing working partnership with South Devon College and the opportunities this offers our children.
