Torbay Mencap Visit
Torbay Mencap Visit Meadfoot House

Yesterday, the children of Meadfoot House were thrilled to welcome Carol King from their chosen charity, Torbay Mencap, to their House assembly. Carol spoke to the children about Torbay Mencap’s mission to promote inclusivity and expand opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities and their carers, ensuring they can thrive in the Torbay community.
She shared how Mencap has introduced changing places facilities across Torbay, providing accessible spaces for those with additional needs and their carers. Additionally, Torbay Mencap have developed specially designed beach huts to make coastal visits more accessible. Carol also highlighted the charity’s work in helping individuals with learning difficulties secure employment, and their vibrant annual music festival, Moove ‘n’ Groove—a musical festival for all!
A huge thank you to Meadfoot House Captains, Luca and Shayna, for taking the initiative to contact Torbay Mencap and invite Carol to speak at our school. Their dedication didn’t stop there—they also suggested the idea of hosting a Bake Sale to fundraise for this important cause! The House Captains will soon be emailing parents and carers with more information.
This assembly was a fantastic demonstration of our school’s aim to Be Good Citizens, as our children showed kindness, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their local community.
